Disappearing Hourglass Quilts

I thought I would share a couple more variations on the disappearing hourglass quilt.....

From PaperPrincess
I never cease to be amazed how fabric cut and sewn the same way, can look so very different, with just the turn of a few squares.

Another endless amazement, the creativity of other quilter's!!!

From http://ruthiequilts.files.wordpress.com/
I really like the way that this one is quilted and will like take my inspiration from it, for my diappearing hour glass quilt.

Quilting detail - gorgeous dresden plate

Our guild made this gorgeous queen-size quilt which we donated to the our local "friends of the library" to raffle.......our library has had some major budget cuts, and since we get to meet there free of charge, we wanted to do something to help. I have tickets, if you would like a chance to win it, e-mail me.

If you win it - I will ship it to you, if you aren't close enough for me to bring it to you. $1 for one chance $5 for 6 chances.

Delectable Mountains Variations - WARNING Quilter's eye candy overdose...........

One of the first quilt classes I ever took was from Billie Lauder. She taught one of those classes where you leave with a world of information on shortcuts and techniques, that you can use for the rest of your quilting life. One of the things she showed us was quick piecing methods for delectable mountains. I am gearing up to make one soon, so I have been on a web search of images for different variations. This block is just about as versatile as a log cabin!

I had to make myself stop with the images, as I could have gone on all day.......see for yourself - just google: delectable mountains quilt image

I don't know about you, but I am inspired - off I go to create another quilt!

Project for The Quilt Pattern Magazine

Back in August, I did a little project for The Quilt Pattern Magazine. Of course, I couldn't share it with you until after it was published.........

This is "Fancy Fandango" - my test of a pattern by Jan Allston.

I was tickled pink to find the photo of my needle case on the cover!

As you can see, it is a needle case - I used fleece inside, instead of traditional felt. I have been using this needle case since I made it in August - it works quite well to hold needles.

Here you can see the outside of the folded out needle case.

It was a LOT of fun to make and actually went quite fast. There is not a lot of stitching, as the design is achieved by folding the fabric.

Visit The Quilt Pattern Magazine for the pattern and directions, which are in the December 2011 issure.

Cross Stitched Whole-cloth

I promised more detail photos of the quilts I was privileged to see at Unicoi State Park in Georgia earlier this week. Here are some detail photos of the cross-stitched medallion quilt. It is 105-inches by 106-inches. It is completely hand stitched and hand quilted. Simply amazing!

I hope you have enjoyed this little bit of eye candy for quilters. Someone sent me an e-mail yesterday saying they were not able to leave a comment on the blog, which is a big bummer as you KNOW how important those comments are! Until next time,

Eye Candy - Gorgeous Hand Quilted

I took a little trip over the last couple of days to Helen, GA. We stayed at the Unicoi State Park Lodge where I was pleasantly surprised by a display of some amazing quilts! Each of these quilts are hand quilted. The piecing "may have been done by machine or hand."

I took a lot of photos - most quite good considering it was at night, inside and with my cell phone. Enjoy!

According to the gift shop personnel, these quilts are all made by "a few" local ladies that get together and quilt. She said they do not have a formal guild (what a shame!)
The quilts are all on consignment. Prices ranging from $500 to $1800. The hand stitching is amazing.
Each wall of quilts was about 12 feet high, so the upper quilts were the hardest to get.

I was so amazed by the stitching, that I of course took lots of close-ups -I hope you don't get bored......
Because there are so many photos, I will only include closeups of a few of the quilts each post. Today, I will start with the ivory wholecloth in the first photo. It is called Pineapple.

I will let you finish the tour, without any more interruptions from me. ;-)
