2010 - my year in review as a quilter

I wanted to join several other bloggers out there who are reminiscing over 2010. In addition to being the president of our local quilt guild, I participated in 2 retreats this year. One was the Alabama Quilt Symposium and the other was the Quilter's Rescue Mission in Toccoa Georgia. I had a wonderful time at both. My intentions for 2011 are to attend the NC Quilt symposium and the AL Quilt Symposium again. Here is a photo montage of my 2010 accomplishments:

"Imperfect Beauty" was completed early in 2010. Here it is hanging at our 2010 guild show. It won 2nd place in our regional fair.

This is a closeup just after the center was pieced.

Pieced only, not quilted yet in this photo.
These are a couple of blocks I completed for a challenge. This was my first year to participate in a block challenge or a retreat. I participated in the Quilter's Rescue Mission at the Baptist conference center in Toccoa. We had 13 ladies from our guild attend. The first block is an appliqued dove. The second is a pieced block. Both are 12 inch blocks.

Who doesn't love the Dear Jane quilts? This year, I started making some Dear Jane type quilt blocks. Each of the following 3 blocks are 4 and a 1/2 inches square.

I can't remember the name of this block, sorry.

This is a palm leaf block - 4 1/2" square.

The last Dear Jane block I completed has been a favorite of mine for years....it is the Card Trick block.

This was a year of miniatures for me. This is a miniature lone star that I completed. It measures about 12x18 inches. I paper pieced this little beauty. It was actually a lot of fund to make. Following is a closeup to give you an idea of the scale:

I pieced this Christmas Tree skirt at the Toccoa retreat. I modified a pattern I found using the 10-degree wedge ruler. It is not quilted yet. I am planning to put a tutorial for this on my blog during 2011.
Just a closeup of the Christmas Tree skirt.
Last but certainly not least, here is a picture of the quilt top made for my son (age 7.) It is an original design that I am calling "Rodeo Stars." It has been quilted, I just haven't gotten photos of the quilted piece. I completed it at 2a.m. Christmas morning and had to get it wrapped and under the tree.

This sunbonnet sue quilt was completed last year for my daughter (now age 8.) I couldn't leave it out though. It too is an original design. The sunbonnet sues were embroidered on my Babylock Ellageo.

Lastly, this quilt was completed for the Hoffman Challenge. It is an original design that I call "Water Lily."

Here is a closeup of the Koi which was the quilting on each of the four corners.

Whew! I actually did get some things done this year......Isn't it funny how we often feel like we are never getting anything done?

What does 2011 hold? I am not really a goal-setter, more of a jump in and do it kind of person, so we will just have to see what the year brings!

To all, have a safe and Blessed New Year's Weekend,
Michele

And then.........

The post lady brought me this lovely package from Lana at "It Seams to be Sew"
I won one of her 12 days of Christmas giveaways. Thank you Lana!

FedEx visited my on Christmas Eve!

Look at these yummy fat quarters the FedEx man brought me on Christmas Eve. What great timing. It is the Maywood Studios "13 going on 30" collection. The colors are vivid and the feel of fabric is luscious. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet.

Christmas Tree Skirt

I just recently pieced this Christmas Tree skirt using the 10-degree wedge ruler....my mom is trying to steal it already!

I am entering it into SewCalGal's Christmas Show 2010.

I am also entering it into Paula's bi-weekly sewing challenge.

Wish me luck!
